ROM Loader

Bring your own retro cartridges and play them right in your browser. Powered by EmulatorJS — no installs, no accounts, no uploads. Pick a console, drop in a ROM you own, and play.

100% on your device — your ROM never leaves your browser.

What is ROM Loader?

ROM Loader is a built-in retro emulator for Craftisle. Unlike the games we host and run for you, this one is bring-your-own-game: you supply a ROM file from a cartridge you legally own, and our self-hosted copy of the open-source EmulatorJS engine runs it entirely inside your browser tab. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for — the moment you load a ROM, the game is emulated through WebAssembly on your own machine.

Why you'll love it

Runs in your browser

No downloads, no plugins, no launchers. The whole emulator is a web page powered by WebAssembly.

Privacy first

Your ROM is read straight from your device into the emulator. It never touches a server — we never even see the filename.

11 classic systems

From the NES and Game Boy to the Sega Genesis, PlayStation and Nintendo 64.

Save states & more

In-emulator save/load states, fullscreen, reset and quick menu — just like a real console.

Open source

Built on the EmulatorJS engine and self-hosted on Craftisle. No black boxes, no tracking.

Cross-device

Play on desktop, laptop or tablet with keyboard, mouse or a gamepad. Touch-friendly where supported.

Privacy & openness

  • Client-side only. Your ROM is processed locally through WebAssembly — no part of it is uploaded anywhere.
  • Open source. The engine is EmulatorJS, self-hosted at /games/retro-player with no third-party calls.
  • No telemetry on your games. We don't log, store or even see your ROM's filename.
  • Play legally. Only load ROMs you personally own or that are freely distributable.

Frequently asked questions

No. The ROM Loader is a full web page that runs the emulator through WebAssembly. Just open it in any modern browser — desktop or mobile.
You bring them. We host no games and bundle no ROMs. The loader reads a file from your own device when you choose one.
The emulator engine (EmulatorJS) is legal open-source software. You are responsible for only loading ROMs you personally own or that are freely distributable in your jurisdiction.
No. The file is loaded locally and emulated in your browser tab. It is never uploaded to a Craftisle server or any third party.
Yes. Games accept keyboard, mouse and touch input, and most support gamepads. On mobile, an on-screen layout depends on the core, but touch and bluetooth controllers generally work.
It depends on the core you pick: .nes (NES), .smc/.sfc (SNES), .gb/.gbc (Game Boy), .gba (GBA), .md/.gen (Genesis), .sms (Master System), .gg (Game Gear), .a26 (Atari 2600), .iso/.bin/.cue (PlayStation), .n64/.z64 (Nintendo 64).
Try a different core for that system (e.g. switch between genesis_plus_gx and picodrive), confirm the ROM isn't corrupted, and make sure you selected the matching console before loading.
